Why
I'm in real estate: I
was raising my children and taking classes at
a local college, and thought I wanted to go into
Accounting. So I took a couple of Accounting classes
and did very well, but realized that Accounting
was boring for me, and I didn't want to do that.
Then I thought I wanted to go into Psychology.
I took some Psychology classis, did very well,
but realized that this was also a boring subject
for me, and I didn't want to go into Psychology,
either. So I took some Marketing classes. I did
very well and enjoyed it, but thought that any
Marketing job would be some little task to do
with marketing, and that would be boring for me
as well. So I thought about what would be the
most fun thing to sell, and settled on Real Estate
(instead of corrugated cardboard boxes, as one
client at the time tried suggesting).
Hobbies:
I love to sail. We sail in the Chesapeake
Bay and the British Virgin Islands, and my goal
is to go sailing in the Greek Islands and around
Croatia in the Aegean Sea.
My
best qualities: In Real Estate, my best
quality is my ability to communicate and listen.
I have a knack for hearing what people are saying,
even when they aren't saying it directly, what
direction they want to move in, and what they
are looking for. For example, if I'm out with
clients and they aren't communication well with
each other, I am good at clearing things up, and
getting everyone on the same page.
Favorite
Vacation Spot: British Virgin Islands.
A
little known fact: I do figure drawings,
and have them framed in my home.
What
I wanted to be when I grew up: I
wanted to have 12 children – then I had
one, and got over that.
My
favorite real estate experiences: I get
excited when are excited - when people find their
house and they're excited. I know it sounds
cliché, but I also really do love when
people refer me to someone, or when they call
after 15 years and haven't forgot me. It's a great
feeling when someone hunts me down to let me know
they're still thinking of me. When I establish
relationships with people beyond just REALTOR
/ Client, it's the best feeling in the world.
What
is your favorite technology device?: My
Palm/PDA. I could not live without it. You can
always use someone else's phone or lockbox, but
everything in my PDA is invaluable. It keeps me
on track, reminds me to call people, and keeps
me organized.
